Vol. 234 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfers from St. Patrick's Institution.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of inmates of Saint Patrick's Institution, Dublin, transferred from that Institution to Portlaoise or Mountjoy in the months of January, February and March of this year; and the principal reasons for such transfers.

The number transferred from St. Patrick's Institution during the period mentioned was ten.

Each transfer was made pursuant to the provisions of section 7 of the Prevention of Crime Act, 1908 which provides that where an inmate of an institution is reported by the Visiting Committee to be incorrigible, or to be exercising a bad influence on the other inmates, his sentence of detention may be commuted by the Minister to a term of imprisonment.
