Vol. 234 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Circuit Courts Accommodation.

12.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the accommodation available for the Dublin Circuit Courts is inadequate; and that one court is being held at the top of the Circuit Court building with resulting grave inconvenience to litigants; and whether he will consider making Green Street an additional circuit court and transferring the Central Criminal Court to the Four Courts where accommodation is readily available.

I am aware that the accommodation now in use by the Dublin Circuit Court is not regarded as fully satisfactory and I am considering whether more suitable alternative accommodation within the Four Courts can be provided.

The Minister is aware of the special difficulties which arise in connection with claims under the Workmen's Compensation Act in respect of disability and suffering. Old people have to climb the stairs and clamber to the room on top of the building where the court sits. Could the Minister give any approximate date when he thinks some reform on the lines he has suggested will likely be carried out? Could we hope that in the autumn term of this year some better accommodation will be available?

I hope so. I am not happy with the position.

So long as the Minister has hopes——

There are divided opinions as to how we shall mix them about.
