Vol. 234 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Houses.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses provided by all local authorities and private persons in each of the last three financial years.

The number of dwellings provided in the last three financial years were as follows:—

1965-66: 11,255, comprising 8,266 non-local authority and 2,989 local authority dwellings;

1966-67: 10,984, comprising 6,905 non-local authority and 4,079 local authority dwellings; and

1967-68: 12,017, comprising 7,972 non-local authority and 4,045 local authority dwellings.

He did not ask for the figures for the previous five years when there was none built. There were less than 4,000 built for the previous five years.

He asked for the correct figures to contradict the deliberately false information that has been circulated under the subterfuge of a so-called religious programme. The truth is available here; lies are available elsewhere.

The Minister wants to interfere with television again.

There is no question of interfering but there is a question of the abuse of privilege by a so-called cleric, or I should say, by a priest using a so-called religious programme to disseminate deliberate falsehood.

Shame on you. When a person tells the truth, he is a so-called cleric.

(Interruptions.)

These are the correct figures. The figures given in this so-called religious programme were lies. These houses are there and no clergyman did anything to provide them.

(Interruptions.)
