Vol. 234 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jury Service.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has yet concluded his consideration of the recommendations contained in the second interim report on jury service; what recommendations he proposes to accept; if he intends to introduce legislation to give effect to these recommendations; and, if so, when.

I am at present considering all aspects of the jury system in the light of the three interim reports on the subject which have been submitted by the Committee on Court Practice and Procedure. Liability for jury service is one of the matters being examined. I propose to introduce comprehensive amending legislation on the subject as soon as I can—if possible, within the next year.

Is the Minister prepared to say what recommendations he is likely to accept?

No, not at this stage, but if the Deputy has patience to wait for the Bill, I hope to have it within the next year.
