Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Educational Grants for Deaf Pupils.

45.

asked the Minister for Education what educational grants are available to deaf pupils at St. Mary's School for the Deaf and St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, Cabra, Dublin.

The following grants are made by my Department towards the education of deaf pupils at St. Mary's School, Cabra, and St. Joseph's School, Cabra:

(a) Teachers' salaries and allowances;

(b) Bonuses to teachers with special qualifications;

(c) Recoupment of salaries of substitutes employed while teachers are attending the Special Diploma Course for Teachers of the Deaf;

(d) Grants towards the purchase of special auditory equipment;

(e) Annual grants towards the maintenance and repair of auditory equipment and the purchase of school requisites;

(f) Grants in respect of instruction in cookery in the case of St. Mary's School;

(g) Grants towards the erection, improvement and furnishing of school buildings;

(h) Grants in respect of the transport of day pupils to and from the schools.
