Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hit and Run Accidents.

20.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of hit and run accidents during 1967; the number that proved fatal; and the number of cases where the culprits were not brought to justice.

The number of hit and run accidents known to the Garda in 1967 was 869. Twelve of them were fatal accidents. In 21 cases proceedings were not instituted because the persons concerned were resident outside the jurisdiction and in 278 cases the persons concerned were not traced. Prosecutions were taken or are pending in the remaining 570 cases.
