Vol. 234 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment in Semi-State Bodies.

22.

asked the Minister for Labour (a) what semi-State bodies recruit women to all grades in their employment; (b) what semi-State bodies recruit grades that are confined to men, and what grades these are; and (c) what semi-State bodies employ men and women in the same grade but pay differentiated scales.

The detailed information asked for by the Deputy is not available in my Department. Semi-State bodies have a considerable degree of autonomy in determining recruitment policies and the remuneration and other conditions of their staff. I do not think that circularisation of the large number of semi-State bodies to obtain the information sought would be justified.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question of 28th November, 1967, by Deputy O'Donnell about the general issue of sex discrimination in employment in semi-State bodies.
