Vol. 234 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Physiotherapy Treatment for Old Age Pensioners.

32.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that old age pensioners receiving physiotherapy treatment are being charged for such treatment; and if he will ensure that this service will be given to them free of charge.

I am not aware of any case in which an old age pensioner was charged for physiotherapy services but if the Deputy will furnish particulars I will take the matter up with the health authority concerned.

Some time ago special arrangements were made by Dublin Health Authority with three voluntary hospitals in Dublin and one in Dún Laoghaire for the provision free of charge of physiotherapy services for persons in the lower income group and those who are over 70 years of age. The arrangements also cover transport to and from the hospital. The health authority themselves provide physiotherapy free of charge for these categories of patients at St. Kevin's Hospital.
