Vol. 234 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin River Pollution.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the pollution of the Dodder River, Dublin has been the subject of constant complaint from residents and has been the cause of danger to wild life; and if he will initiate action to deal with this matter.

I am informed by Dublin County Council that any pollution occurring at present in the river Dodder will be alleviated by the Dodder Valley drainage scheme, work on which is expected to start in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that there is a skin and hide factory discharging effluent into the river and despite the fact that the authorities have been notified, no effort has been made to stop it? This has been going on now for over two years and can the Minister give instructions that this be stopped immediately?

Two sections of the Dodder Valley scheme will be started in the very near future.

Questions Nos. 41 to 74, inclusive, postponed.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

They were the ones they were afraid to have answered.

(Interruptions.)

However, you made our speeches for us for the weekend at the Ard-Fheis.

It is a change for the Minister to be complimenting anybody for making a speech for him.

It will save us making them.
