Vol. 234 No. 10

Written Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

114.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of local authority loans given by (a) Meath County Council, (b) Dublin County Council, (c) Dublin Corporation and (d) Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation in each financial year from 31st March, 1953 to date.

Because of complications caused by the practice of paying some loans by instalments, statistics are not kept in my Department of the number of loans given in particular years. The following reply shows the number of loans approved. As it is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, A Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Because of the extension of the Dublin city boundary on 1st April, 1953, the figures for the year before then for the city and the county are not comparable with the figures for the subsequent years.

The table does not take account of lending by building societies, assurance companies and other agencies.
