Vol. 234 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Office Blocks.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now ascertain and state the total area in square feet of all office blocks completed in Dublin city since 1965; if he will arrange that such statistics be regularly compiled in future by his Department; and, if not, why.

I assume that this question relates to the total floor area of office blocks completed. This information is not available in my Department nor is it readily available in Dublin Corporation. I should explain that the estimated figure for the aggregate floor area of local authority dwellings which I gave in reply to the Deputy's question on 15th May, 1968, was computed on the basis of standard floor areas for houses and average floor areas for flats. An estimate of the total floor area of office blocks completed in the same period would not provide a reliable basis for comparison and I do not think that the time and expenditure required for more detailed investigation would be warranted.
