Vol. 234 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Free TV Licences.

51.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated cost to the Exchequer of providing free television licences to some old age pensioners.

As indicated by the Minister for Finance in his Budget speech, the estimated cost to the Exchequer of the provision of free television and radio licences to certain old age pensioners is £120,000 a year.

I wonder has the Minister any estimate of the cost of the provision of the refreshments, as reported in the papers, at the Fianna Fáil cavalcade last night when apparently old age pensioners were drunk on what they got?

That does not arise from the question.
