Vol. 234 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfers from Ballymun Scheme.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of people who have already applied for a transfer from the new housing scheme in Ballymun, Dublin.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that, to date, the total number of applications received by them for transfers from the Ballymun housing scheme is 195. The number of houses in the scheme let to tenants is about 1,720.

Do the figures given by the Minister refer to applicants wishing to transfer from the flats as well as the houses?

Could the Minister say if the architectural structure of the high housing units in the Ballymun estate is identical with that of the high housing unit in London which recently collapsed?

Are you sure of that?

Yes, it is a different system.

It is very important that that should be known.

Has the Minister taken into consideration the prospects for this scheme when the big jets start to operate out of Dublin Airport? Has he considered that with all its dangers in relation to this scheme?

That is a separate question.

They should not affect this scheme in any particular way. It will not be in the line of the jets.

Is it not true that they shake ordinary houses built in the conventional manner and that they are quite liable to do damage here? It is something the Minister should have regard to.

There is no reason to believe they will affect the scheme in any way.

Do you need actual proof, the thing to happen? Is that what you are waiting for?

The Deputy seems to want to cause apprehension among the people in Ballymun.

He is more worried about them than about PR.
