Vol. 234 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance to Fishermen.

19.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider allowing payment of unemployment assistance to fishermen on the Blackwater during the present fishing season because of the very bad season they are having.

The entitlement to unemployment assistance of any individual applicant is a question which falls to be decided by a statutory deciding or appeals officer. Subject to this, the local employment offices concerned were instructed some time ago that applications for unemployment assistance by the fishermen in question could be accepted in the ordinary way until such time as fishing becomes normal. So far as I know this is being done.
