Vol. 234 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Means Test.

21.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether in the assessment of means of an old age pensioner any portion of a pensioner's savings are not taken into account because that portion is considered as necessary to pay for a pensioner's funeral expenses; if so, the amount of such; and, if not, why.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. The Old Age Pension Acts do not provide for the assessment of means from capital on the basis of the purpose for which the capital is held.
