Vol. 234 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loans and Grants to Companies.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the amount of (a) loans and (b) grants that have been paid by his Department to semi-State and private companies since 1932.

As far as services currently administered by my Department are concerned, grants and loans made to various firms since 1932 total £9,622,583 and £1,480,091 respectively. It may be taken that virtually all of these firms have been companies, but it would not be possible to say exactly how much of these sums relate to companies without a disproportionate amount of research.

In addition, my Department has made to various semi-State and other agencies grants totalling £36,194,647, by far the greater part of which has been used by these agencies to make grants to companies.
