Vol. 234 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cat and Dog Food Imports.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the value of cat and dog food imported into this country at the present time; and how this compares with the figure for ten years ago.

Imports of dog biscuits and other dog and cat food in 1967 were valued c.i.f. at £188,925. In 1957 there was no separate heading in the Official Import List for dog and cat foods but in 1963, the earliest year for which separate figures are available, imports under this heading were valued at £53,474.

Why are we bringing in all the cat food, considering we prohibited the exportation of horses?

There must be more cats in the country.

That does not surprise me. That would be Fianna Fáil's idea of increasing the livestock population of the country.
