Vol. 235 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Doctors.

19.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the results of his negotiations with doctors on the method of payment to be incorporated in the new health service.

20.

asked the Minister for Health when he expects to announce the results of his negotiations with the medical profession on the method of remunerating doctors for their services in any amended public health service.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 20 together.

These negotiations have not yet been concluded. A further meeting with the professional organisations will be held in a few weeks. I will announce the result of the discussions as soon as possible.

Can the Minister say how soon after the conclusion of the negotiations he will introduce the Health Bill which has been long promised?

As things stand now, there are only two items remaining for settlement between the medical profession and myself. I would hope that both these matters will be disposed of at the next meeting which is scheduled for two or three weeks time, and we will then be in a position to go ahead with the legislation.

As soon as possible.
