Vol. 235 No. 1

Committee on Finance. - Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited (Amendment) Bill, 1968: Committee and Final Stages.

Sections 1 to 5, inclusive, agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

I thought that the Minister was possibly going to bring in an amendment on Report Stage in view of the statements made by some of his colleagues in the by-election in Limerick that we are going to extend the area over which the Shannon Free Airport Company have jurisdiction to include the city of Limerick.

I should explain to the House that, to my regret, the Shannon Free Airport Bill, when it becomes an Act, will be administered by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. The industrial arrangements and all the housing arrangements will come under his jurisdiction because the Shannon Free Airport Development Company is being made the agency for the Industrial Development Authority for Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary. This is a final and absolute decision. It will not, however, prevent the Shannon Free Airport Development Company, pending the final administrative arrangements, putting in train the organisational apparatus to extend the sphere of their activity.

Has any decision been taken to extend it?

It has, yes.

And it is being extended?

Yes. The Minister and I have both made announcements in this regard to include Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary Riding, which represent one of the regional areas the subject of planning by Dr. Lichfield.

In the immediate future?

Question put and agreed to.

This is certified as a Money Bill in accordance with Article 22 of the Constitution.
