Vol. 235 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Trunk Service.

4.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the difficulty of getting trunk telephone calls to Ballybay, Clones and Monaghan; and whether anything can be done to improve the service.

I am aware that there is delay at times on calls to the places mentioned.

Additional trunk circuits have already been provided between Clones and Monaghan and between Castleblayney and Dundalk and when an aerial trunk cable between Castleblayney and Monaghan is completed, in about four months time, Monaghan, Clones and Castleblayney will have a no-delay service. A new trunk cable scheme from Castleblayney to Ballybay and Cootehill is scheduled for completion next year; as an interim relief measure some temporary circuits have recently been provided for Cootehill and additional temporary circuits will be provided for both Cootehill and Ballybay as soon as the Castleblayney-Monaghan cable is completed.
