Vol. 235 No. 2

Referendum (Amendment) Bill, 1968: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the Referendum Acts, 1942 to 1963.
—(Minister for Local Government.)

(Cavan): Could the Minister give any indication what this is about?

It is to make the necessary arrangements for the carrying out of the referendum.

Will it give the date?

It cannot give the date because I do not know how long Deputies are going to succeed in holding up this measure.

Wednesday next.

I take it the House is not sitting on Tuesday?

No, I do not think so.

(Cavan): Any device at all to delay the matter.

I do not fix bank holidays. I should be quite prepared to sit on a bank holiday.

(Cavan): You do not even work when you are sitting. The House adjourned early last week on two occasions without any business.

There was very important business done yesterday.

(Interruptions.)
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 5th June, 1968.
