Vol. 235 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Housing.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the great need for a large housing scheme for Sneem, County Kerry; the number of persons in need of re-housing in the Sneem district; and the present position regarding proposals by the county council to have these persons rehoused.

I understand from Kerry County Council that there is a need for about eight local authority houses in Sneem. I have approved their proposals for the provision of two houses on a site which has been acquired by them and I have suggested that two more houses might be built on the site. I also understand that they are formulating proposals for the acquisition of a further site.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position relating to the proposed housing scheme for Kenmare, County Kerry; and whether he will ask Kerry County Council to expedite the acquisition of land in Kenmare for this scheme.

Kerry County Council are formulating proposals for acquisition of a housing site at Kenmare by compulsory purchase order. In view of the appellate functions which I may be called on to exercise in relation to any such order, it would not be appropriate for me to intervene in the matter at this stage.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position relating to the proposed erection of 11 bungalows on the sand-pit site, Killarney, by Killarney Urban District Council.

I understand that the council's technical adviser is at present considering certain revisions to the outline plans for the scheme, which were suggested by my Department on 15th of last month, with a view to the preparation of contract documents.
