Vol. 235 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Vacant Cottages.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of vacant county council cottages in County Kerry; and whether he will ask the council to consider re-settling itinerants in these cottages.

I understand from Kerry County Council that there are about four of their rented cottages vacant at present; that there are about 40 vacant vested cottages in the county at present; and that rented cottages which have been offered to itinerant families in the past, have, in general, been declined or vacated by them after a short period of occupation.

It is, of course, open to any housing authority to house itinerant families, provided that, in doing so, they comply with the normal statutory housing priorities.
