Vol. 235 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Teachers.

36.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the widespread concern amongst secondary school teachers that the implementation of the suggestions of the teachers tribunal will result in reductions in salaries now paid to them; and if he will give an assurance that in any rearrangement of teachers' salaries no teachers will suffer a reduction in their incomes.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 30th May, 1968, to a question on this matter.

The Minister said he would be giving a decision on the matter soon. Would he ensure that the decision is given at an early date because many teachers are concerned that their positions would be affected disadvantageously and they would wish to make arrangements to get positions in other locations?

There is no question of that happening. We have worked that out all right.
