Vol. 235 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Interests of Exporters to Continent.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the very serious anxiety of business and exporting firms in the Republic in view of the danger of the economic collapse of France and other European countries; and if he has any measures under consideration to safeguard the interests of such exporters and to protect them against losses arising from the present situation.

Whilst the interruption to trade due to the disturbed conditions in France must be a cause of concern to Irish firms trading with that country, so far I have received no reports of any losses suffered by exporters because of conditions there.

Under a scheme set up by my Department in conjunction with certain Irish insurance companies, exporters can obtain credit insurance in respect of both commercial and political risks. Any exporters who have taken out insurance under the scheme are of course protected.
