Vol. 235 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Bridge.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a contractor has yet been sanctioned for the building of a new bridge at Bealadangan, County Galway, to replace the present one; and, if so, when he expects work will commence.

Acceptance of a tender has been approved and I am informed that Galway County Council are arranging for the placing of the contract and expect that work will commence shortly.

43.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Kerry County Council will arrange for the widening and improvement of the Iveragh Road, Killorglin, particularly Tobin's Corner, during 1969.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Kerry County Council will prepare plans for the widening and improvement of the main county road at Kilderry, Milltown, which is now extremely dangerous owing to the heavy traffic on it; and if the improvements will be carried out in 1969.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 43 and 44 together.

The road to which the Deputy refers is a main road. The formulation of proposals for execution under the annual Main Road Improvement Grants made available to Kerry County Council is a matter in the first instance for the local authority. I understand that the local authority have at present no proposals for the widening and improvement works in question, having regard to the existence of more urgent works elsewhere in the county.
