Section 64 of the Road Traffic Bill, 1966, which is at present before the Seanad, provides for the appointment of persons to be authorised persons for the purposes of section 103 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961. When the new legislation comes into operation, it is intended to appoint persons under the Act to discharge certain traffic duties in Dublin and elsewhere which are at present performed by members of the Garda Síochána.
