Vol. 235 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Hospital.

90.

asked the Minister for Health if he is now in a position to verify that a hospital will be built in Ballyfermot, Dublin; and, if so, when.

A Consultative Council which I set up to consider the future organisation of the general hospital services is nearing the end of its deliberations and I would like to consider the council's report before giving a definite answer to the Deputy's question.

Would the Minister bear in mind that there is in Ballyfermot a site reserved for a new hospital for the confederated general hospitals and would he also bear in mind that Ballyfermot and environs constitute a vast housing estate without a modern hospital available to it? Would he ensure if, as is expected, the council recommend that new hospital buildings be provided, that priority would be given to the Ballyfermot area in any plans which would be brought into effect?

If the council so recommend, I shall certainly give it priority.
