Vol. 235 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Processing Plants.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will give full details of the progress of An Bord Bainne plans for the establishment of milk processing plants in foreign countries.

The plans of An Bord Bainne in this connection are aimed at securing new outlets for Irish dairy produce in highly competitive foreign markets and it would obviously be inappropriate at this juncture to furnish details of them and thereby provide information which could be of advantage to the Board's competitors.

Could the Minister state whether these plants that An Bord Bainne are trying to set up will qualify for Foras Tionscal grants, these projects to set up plants in other countries?

I could not answer that.

Would the Minister use his influence to see that in fact they do qualify, if it provides an outlet?

The first thing I shall have to find out is whether the proposition is worth supporting.

I hope the Minister has made up his mind on that already.

It is very difficult to make up one's mind on what one does not know a great deal about.

The Minister has made up his mind on certain questions he knows little about.

Have I been wrong?

The Minister certainly has.

That is only the Deputy's view.
