Vol. 235 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Housing Scheme.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he received recommendations from Monaghan County Council for a scheme of county council houses in Emyvale in March, 1968; and why it took three months to send a letter to the county council asking for an engineer's report and site map of the proposed scheme.

A layout plan and estimate of cost for a scheme of 17 houses at Emyvale was received by my Department on the 26th March last. Following technical examination of the proposal and discussions between an inspector of the Department and the council's consultant architect, it was felt that the scheme as planned might prove unduly costly and additional technical information was requested in writing on 30th May last to determine whether cost economies could be suggested.

This question and any outstanding technical aspects of the proposal will be discussed by an inspector of my Department with the council's technical advisers in Monaghan this week.

As good an excuse as any when you have not got the money.
