Vol. 235 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply for Dublin Flats.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that many of the flats in Mount-pleasant Buildings and in Hollyfield Buildings, Dublin are without electricity supply; and if he will ask Dublin Corporation to wire these flats without imposing any charge on the residents who are mainly old age pensioners.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that a total of 24 flats in these buildings are not wired for electricity because the tenants, at the time, would not accept the electricity supply on the terms offered when it was being installed in the buildings; that they propose to make a further survey to establish the requirements of the tenants whose flats are without an electricity supply; and that the financial circumstances of the tenants concerned will be taken into account in deciding a charge for wiring the flats.

Will the Minister ask Dublin Corporation to provide wiring for these flats now and not wait until a survey is made? There are only 24 flats involved, as the Minister said. Would he not ask them to do it immediately, as these people are anxious to have electricity in their flats in Dublin city?

A survey has to be made first.

Is the Minister aware that there is wiring in some flats nearby and it could come from there?
