Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Property Development.

3.

asked the Taoiseach whether statistics on property development to be collected by the Central Statistics Office will be regularly available to Deputies and the general public; and if he will assure the House that the statistics provided will be comprehensive in regard to area, accommodation, height, value, rents, ownership, tenancy and other aspects of property development.

As indicated in the reply of the Minister for Local Government to the Deputy's question (Number 27 of 5 June), planning authorities forward to the Central Statistics Office each month particulars of projects for which full permission or approval has been granted by them under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963. The statistical data supplied comprise essentially the description of each project, its location and the floor area where this is a relevant measure. Particulars in regard to accommodation, height, value, rents and tenancy are not available from the planning authorities. The work of compiling this data is still at an early stage and it is not yet possible to state what form its final publication will take.

In order to supplement the particulars supplied by planning authorities, an inquiry is being addressed to each successful applicant for full planning permission or approval, asking him to furnish the Central Statistics Office with an estimate of the cost of the project. This information is being collected under a guarantee of confidentiality in respect of each individual project. As in the case of the material furnished by the planning authorities, the final form which the publication of the aggregated data on estimated costs will take has not yet been decided.
