I am so aware although there are no specific proposals in my Department at present. Development of local airfields is a matter for local commercial enterprise and as indicated in my reply to Deputy Harte on 12th June, 1968, in view of the considerable exchequer investment in our existing three airports, I would have to find convincing evidence of worthwhile results before considering capital investment in another large scale airport whether north or south. Technical advice and guidance are available in my Department to any local promoter prepared to establish an airstrip and subject to certain safeguards, some financial assistance could also be considered.
