Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Installations.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that, because of the requirements of the ESB regarding supply to consumers' premises, houses in Dublin Corporation's estates are being disfigured by unsightly wiring and meters to the great annoyance of tenants; if there is any limit to the powers of the Board to require wires and meters to be located in particular positions; and, if not, if he will introduce legislation to oblige the Board to have regard to the wishes of consumers in such matters and to the need to preserve the good appearance both externally and internally of all houses.

The ESB have told me that they do not accept that houses in Dublin Corporation housing estates are being disfigured by unsightly internal wiring and meters.

Safety is the primary factor in the location of the internal wires and meters—to enable supply to be conveniently disconnected with minimum risk to life, in the event of fire, or other hazard. As regards the location of meters, the Board are prepared, within the safety limits, to meet the wishes of consumers.

The wiring distribution system in Dublin Corporation housing estates is the standard system used in urban domestic distribution and is acceptable to Dublin Corporation.
