Vol. 235 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Workers.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in relation to legislative proposals to be introduced shortly for the benefit of agricultural workers, consideration has been given to the recent legislation in Northern Ireland regarding the extended powers of the Northern Ireland Wages Board regarding conditions of employment, sick-pay and holidays.

The proposals for amendment of our existing legislation relating to the employment of agricultural workers will take account of the considerations relevant to our circumstances here. I am aware of the legislation referred to by the Deputy.

Would the Minister be able to say when it is proposed to introduce the amending legislation?

I cannot be very specific about it.

Weeks? Months?

I would hope it would be weeks.

Will it be before the Summer Recess?

I hope it will be, but I am not quite sure.

Not like the Marts Bill.
