Vol. 235 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Pensioners.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there is a disparity between the treatment of LGD pensioners before 1961-62 and at the present date; and, if so, if he will take steps to remove this disparity.

I am not aware of any disparity between the treatment of local authority pensioners who retired before 1961-62 and those who retired subsequently. Periodic increases in pensions, which are intended to offset increases in the cost of living subsequent to retirement, are granted to local authority pensioners on the same basis as to other public service pensioners. The initiative in this matter rests with the Minister for Finance.
