Vol. 235 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Corporation Dwellings.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is permissible for a tenant of a Dublin Corporation dwelling to use it for the giving of music lessons for fees.

The application in individual cases of the statutory regulations governing the letting of local authority houses is primarily a matter for the housing authority concerned.

Even though it is primarily a matter for the housing authority concerned, is the giving of music lessons in a corporation dwelling permitted?

I do not know whether Deputy Ryan and I are thinking of the same thing or not, but I hope the housing authority will interpret the regulations in a reasonable way.

Is the Minister aware that the authority in question, which is about to compulsorily dispossess a piano teacher from a small cottage she has occupied for decades past, is offering her £200 or £250 as total compensation for the income she will lose by reason of her inability even to house a piano, much less play it in the room to which she is being transferred?

The Deputy is completely out of order.

Deputy Moore made a speech and was out of order and you did not open your mouth to him.

Question No. 34.

If the Minister considers it is adequate to provide a person——

Will Deputy Ryan please resume his seat?

I hope what Deputy Ryan says will not happen. I have no knowledge of it. The Deputy did not ask me about a particular case. It is a matter for the housing authority, of which, I think, Deputy Ryan is a member.

The Minister has given his approval to this most insulting——

Deputy Ryan is completely out of order.

——offer to an aged lady who has been the main support of her husband for many years past.

I do not know anything about the case to which Deputy Ryan has referred.

The Minister has given his sanction.

I am certainly not responsible for anything such as Deputy Ryan has alleged has taken place. I hope the members of the housing authority would not allow such a thing to happen.

You have to join the cumann.

No. There is a Coalition majority on this particular housing authority.

The elected members have no responsibility for compensation; it is a matter for the Minister and the valuer.

This does not arise from the Deputy's question and is totally irrelevant.

The Minister is very much out of tune.

I hope the housing authority will not allow any such injustice to take place.
