asked the Minister for External Affairs if it is proposed to send a further detachment of Army personnel for duty in Cyprus; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government have acceded to a request from the Secretary-General of the United Nations to maintain a contingent with the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for a further period of six months ending on 15th December, 1968 on the same terms and conditions as at present. The Government have also authorised the making of the necessary preparations for the selection, training and equipping of a unit of the Permanent Defence Force to replace the present contingent consisting of the 10th Infantry Group when its tour of duty expires on 22nd September, 1968.
