Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Needs.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated number of houses needed at present (a) in Dublin city and (b) in the remainder of the country.

The number of dwellings needed at present in Dublin city to accommodate families on the Corporation's approved waiting list is 5,437. According to the statutory assessment of housing need made by the Corporation under the Housing Act, 1966, the present total accumulated need for dwellings to be provided by the Corporation is estimated at 8,518. In addition to applicants on the approved waiting list, this estimate of 8,518 includes persons who have applied for rehousing but have not been approved at present and also persons who have not applied for rehousing but are deemed to be in need of rehousing. Corresponding figures are not yet available for the remainder of the country.
