asked the Minister for Education if it has been decided to establish a university in Limerick; if so, if a site has been chosen; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University for Limerick.
I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave in the House on 19th June, 1968, to a question concerning the possibility of establishing a university institution in Limerick. I have nothing to add to that reply at the moment.
Is the Minister aware that Fianna Fáil promised during the by-election in Limerick that Limerick would get a university? What has happened since then? They won the seat. There is no necessity to build it now.
I think, if we read the same newspaper, the Minister expressed a personal view that did not shut out the possibility of a university institution in Limerick. He expressed an encouraging view about the prospects without making a promise that there would be.
Is the Minister aware that loudspeakers gave a very encouraging view and actually announced, up and down the streets of Limerick, that they would get it? I heard it myself.
They did not.
They certainly did.
They did not.
We heard them but the election is over now and you have forgotten.
I would not say that it is forgotten but there is nothing to add at this time.
Nothing to add until the next election.
