Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Security Standards.

38.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what measures are being taken to ensure compliance with the International Labour Organisation's Convention on standards of social security, which has been ratified by this country.

The provisions of our social security system are considered to be fully in conformity with the accepted obligations of International Labour Convention No. 102 on Minimum Standards of Social Security, and specific measures are therefore not necessary.

Does the Minister consider that the social welfare benefits for widows would come into that category as being satisfactory?

The Convention lays down certain minimum standards with which we are well in conformity.

Does the Minister think so?

We could not be signatories if we were not.
