Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sub-Standard Drugs.

56.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of a report that the House of Commons had discussed the importation into Britain from Ireland of sub-standard drugs; if he has investigated this complaint; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to a newspaper report of 22nd June. I have seen this report and also the Official Report of the relevant debate in the House of Commons on the Medicines Bill. I have noted the reported allegations that sub-standard drugs are being imported into Britain from this country. The reference appears to relate to certain drugs required for veterinary purposes but I am having inquries made to obtain additional information regarding the matter. I am having consultations with the Department of Agriculture and I will make a statement later.
