Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Hospital X-Ray Unit.

61.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will ask the Kerry County Council to investigate the feasibility of setting up an X-ray department in one of the Killarney hospitals, having regard in particular to the cost of transporting persons to Tralee for X-rays and to the delay in obtaining results of X-rays in South Kerry due to the inadequate facilities in the County Hospital, Tralee, to deal with the whole county of Kerry.

I have approved proposals which include the provision of improved facilities for radiological examinations at the County Hospital, Tralee. A new X-ray plant and an automatic film processing unit will be installed and I have agreed that the necessary building work should be carried out by direct labour. I would hope that when the new facilities are in operation it should be possible to provide a satisfactory and expeditious service. In the circumstances I do not think it appropriate to request the health authority to take action of the kind suggested by the Deputy.
