Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord na Móna Pension Scheme.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will promote legislation to amend section 6 of the Turf Development Act, 1953 so that the Board's contributions to the superannuation scheme shall not be less than the workers' contributions, as an alternative to the existing condition which provides that the contributions must be equal to the workers' contributions, for the purpose of enabling the preparation of a more liberal superannuation scheme.

I do not propose to introduce legislation as suggested to amend section 6 of the Turf Development Act, 1953. The principle of equal contributions to superannuation funds by employer and employee is well established and is, I consider, the most equitable arrangement. If the workers wish to improve the benefits by making larger contributions, Bord na Móna, under the scheme, are free to make equal contributions.
