Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Crime Increase.

35.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in crime in Dublin as reported in the Garda Commissioner's report, he will review the Garda strength in the city and the organisation of the force with a view to marshalling all possible forces, including that of public opinion, to combat the crime wave.

I have indicated on a number of recent occasions in replies to Parliamentary questions and in public statements that I am reviewing the distribution of the Garda Síochána with a view to arranging that the strengths at various centres will be related to the most urgent public need, that is, the prevention and detection of crime.

The needs of the Dublin Metropolitan Area are uppermost in my mind.
