Vol. 236 No. 1

Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 1968: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Old Age Pensions Acts, 1908 to 1967, the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1933 to 1967, the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 1935 to 1967, and the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1967.
— (Minister for Social Welfare).

Is this a considerable Bill?

It is not. It is to give effect to the changes already announced in the Budget.

It is not a wide Bill. It is only Budget proposals.

There are a few other small things.

Why call it a Miscellaneous Provisions Bill then?

Is it proposed to take the Social Welfare Estimate with it?

Not necessarily.

That was the intention last week but if there is a desire to finish next week, that might not be possible.

It is necessary to get the Bill before 1st August but the Estimate need not be taken then.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 9th July, 1968.
