Vol. 236 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the statement in the recent Industrial Development Authority report on industrial grants that half the firms in the survey were dissatisfied with the telephone service, he will meet the industrialists concerned and take immediate action to remove this obstacle to increased employment.

Immediately on receipt of this report my Department took action with a view to identifying and where possible remedying the causes for complaint. The Industrial Development Authority was asked to request those firms which had indicated dissatisfaction to permit their names to be given to the Department so that particulars of their problems might be obtained. Thirty firms gave particulars and they were contacted by representatives of the Department and their difficulties were dealt with to the extent possible. Sixteen firms did not respond to the invitation and it was understood that the remaining 22 were reasonably satisfied with improvements which had meanwhile been effected in the service.
