Vol. 236 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Potato Processing Plant.

45.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that potatoes from Country Louth account for two-thirds of the intake of the Tuam potato processing plant, he will offer assistance for the establishment of a similar plant in County Louth.

The Tuam processing plant is adequate to cope with Erin Foods' present requirements of potatoes and the company does not envisage that it will have need for another factory in the foreseeable future. If an extension in production facilities is required at a future date, the supply position existing in County Louth will be a relevant factor in deciding the location of new plant.

If the establishment of a potato processing plant in County Louth were to be undertaken by a body other than Erin Foods Ltd., detailed proposals in regard to any such plant would need to be studied before a decision on State assistance could be given.
