Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Home Patients.

74.

asked the Minister for Health the average number of persons availing of the facilities at county homes throughout the State.

The average number of persons per day maintained in county homes and similar accommodation provided by local health authorities in the year ended 31st March, 1967, the latest year for which figures are available, was 9,736.

75.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give an analysis of county home patients in Dublin Health Authority institutions on 31st March, 1967 and 1968, similar to that given in a reply of 11th May, 1967.

The numbers of county home patients in Dublin Health Authority institutions given in the tabular statement in my reply to the Deputy's previous question on 11th May, 1967 were compiled from the results of a special survey of persons in county homes generally on 31st March, 1966, made by the interdepartmental committee on care of the aged. Information, similarly classified, is not available from Dublin Health Authority for its institutions for the 31st March, 1967 and 31st March, 1968. However, the tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report, shows the numbers, ascertained from that health authority, of county home patients in its institutions on the respective dates referred to, classified as chronic medical cases and others, including frail and social cases.

Following is the statement:
