Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Drugs.

99.

asked the Minister for Health if any progress has been made in the proposal to have medical drugs purchased in bulk and retailed through pharmaceutical chemists as a means of reducing the prices.

Proposals dealing with the supply of drugs and medicines under the proposed new general medical service which have emerged following discussions with representatives of the manufacturers, the wholesalers and the retail chemists are being examined in my Department.

There will be no avoidable delay in reaching decisions on these, but the Deputy will appreciate that they are connected with the changes in the general medical services which are the subject of negotiations with the representatives of the medical profession.

Will this have to await new legislation?
